Kaiser Constantin VII (905-959) hinterließ zwei sich widersprechende Chroniken (für das Staatsarchiv sowie für seinen Sohn). Zuvor waren alle alten Texte in die neu aufkommende ‘Minuskelschrift’ umgesetzt worden.
Bereits 1675 erschien eine Schrift Daniel Papebrochs, die alle Königsurkunden der Merowinger als gefälscht bezeichnete.
