"Seit der Fleischwerdung des Herrn waren 13 Jahre vergangen…". Thietmar von Merseburg (975 – 1018) unterlief gleich in der ersten Zeile des 4. Buches der Merseburger Chronik ein doppelter Lapsus: Er vergaß das Wort ‘mille’ in der Jahresangabe. Dann fügte er dieses darüber zwischen ‘annus’ und ‘tredecim’ ein. Schließlich wählte er die Umschreibung ‘post millenarii plentaidine numeri’, die den Bezug zwischen der Jahreszahl und der Geburt Christi auflöste. Wusste er, dass dieser Bezug willkürlich festgesetzt worden war?
